Avoiding Unnecessary Surgery

Sometimes the most valuable decision a multidisciplinary team can make is the decision not to operate.

Surgeon reviewing liver imaging in Harar, Ethiopia, before deciding on a treatment plan

I once faced a difficult clinical dilemma involving a patient with a large liver cyst, where I was uncertain whether surgical intervention was necessary or if conservative management would be more appropriate. Through the HPBridge platform, I was able to consult with experienced HPB surgeons who carefully reviewed the case and advised that close monitoring rather than immediate surgery would be the most appropriate course of action. This shared decision-making process provided a strong sense of reassurance, as it allowed me to benefit from the collective experience and wisdom of senior colleagues.
